EVIE FACT FILE:

  • PROFILE NAME?: I'm known on most forums as Supermodelnation
  • AIRPORT NAME?: Evie Air Base (NATO)
  • YEAR COMPLETED?: 20 July 2012 (2 month project)
  • UPGRADES COMPLETED?: 12 June 2017 (3 month project)
  • DIORAMA SETTING?: A fictitious NATO air base somewhere in the UK
  • SCALE?: 1/150 (using 1/144 aircraft…visually it works…honest!)
  • INSPIRATION IN MODEL MAKING?:  Around 6 years old. I was given my first Airfix model. An Avro Vulcan. It must have been a mess to look at but in my eyes it was a masterpiece. I was hooked from then on.
  •  WHY A MILITARY AIR BASE?: Many dioramas out there tend to be civilian. I have always had a fascination for military aircraft. Being a young teen at the outbreak of the Falklands, I loved watching the Harrier win the war and my love for military planes grew. It just made sense.
  • NUMBER OF PLANES ON THE BASE?:  Hey, that information is classified!
  • WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR EVIE:? Great things and more

EVIE AIRCRAFT:

Numerous planes have featured at Evie. They include Fighter jets such as USAF F-16 Fighting Falcons and a batch of US Navy F-18 Hornets together with an RAF Eurofighter Typhoon prototype all of which appeared in the 2013 Evie Air Show.

3 RAF Panavia Tornado GR-4s made a farewell retirement landing at Evie; A pair of Sweedish Saab JAS39 Grippen and recently USAF F-15s are just a few of the numerous planes featured.

Surveillance aircraft such as a Spanish Grumman E-2 Hawkeye and a USAF Boeing E3 Sentry have also featured. Bombers include the B-2 Lancer and an F-117 which have made several special aerial display appearances. The formidable large C-17 Globemaster III transport of the RAF, USAF and Canadian Forces all conduct regular takeoffs and landings at the base. Very recently a KC-10 Extender featured for the very first time.

The most amusing plane to feature at the base was at the re-opening of Evie 2.0 when a bright yellow, battle scarred Cessna (L-19) O1 Bird Dog made a grand entrance emerging from a Hardened Aircraft Shelter
